Setting up your my own site / blog
A WIP diary of the research, planning & steps to setting up my own site.
Planning: I've written a list of all of the types of articles, subjects that I think I'll create - so that I can then,
- Define what the site's objective is
- who will be interested in the articles
- what functionality I may want to integrate e.g. my flickr account photos, twitter etc.
Resources: A list of site I've used to research/plan - what I'll build my site in, any design resources.
Build - http://wordpress.org/ - Wordpress, an open source resource recommended to me as the best for building your own site.
Hosting - Wordpress self hosted option was recommended to me. Next, find someone who can host it.
Domain name - I haven't chosen that yet, until I fully scope what my site will do/be.
Design - http://themeforest.net/ a useful site recommended to me as a good resource for buying premium Wordpress design templates for only about $30. Apparently the free Wordpress design templates aren't very good.
Best places to find good ones:
ALL FILES> Top Authors
ALL FILES> Populare files
Wordpress Themes - sorted by "Most sales" - may also help you see what others are buying
http://themeforest.net/item/flowhub/101197?WT.ac=category_thumb&WT.seg_1=category_thumb&WT.z_author=Monkify like the clear navigation & simple design
Once you go to a publisher - go to "live preview" to see what a site would look likeClean Cut -

Big Feature -
clean & simple, but not sure it will be right for me. http://themeforest.net/item/bigfeature-wordpress-theme/51702?WT.ac=category_item&WT.seg_1=category_item&WT.z_author=vfxdude

Croydon Station to Brighton cycle route
A new route I found on http://www.cycle-route.com/
New route I found on Cycle-Route from Croydon station to Brighton, looks simpler that the traditional London to brighton & avoids the nasty bit of getting out of London
It's a bit shorter - approx 49 miles or 80km (rather than 56-9 miles normal London to Brighton route)
http://www.cycle-route.com/routes/East_Croydon_to_Brighton-Cycle-Route-106.html
Overview of the roads if you want to write them down on a pad;
I actually prefer this route to the traditional London to brighton race route http://sazyb.blogspot.com/2011/10/london-to-brighton-cycle-route.html
Easier to navigate, a few less tricky left & right turns. You still need a pad of the key road names & turns to avoid stopping & looking @ your iPhone all the time.
Some lovely straight roads & classic English countryside views. Especially nice in November as the low sun made the scenery beautiful.
Try it!

Triathlon wetsuit brands and review
I did my research & what I thought I wanted was a 2XU V1 suit, however, through an ebay purchase error, I ended up with a 2XU T1 - a level down, it's been perfect for a summer of training & my first triathlon. the buoyancy & stretch really is completely different to a windsurfing wetsuit. You really DO need a Triathlon wetsuit.
Sizes tend to come up small, if you're buying one online, look up the size charts by brand as each brand varies.
Other brands my friends bought & were really happy with were:
2XU, BlueSeventy & Orca... that doesn't mean the others aren't good. I saw quite a lot of Foor as well.

Channel 4 Food Hospital - Recipe -slow release energy- Mint and Courgette Parmasan Pasta
This is the next recipe I fancy cooking, looks easy & slow release... I've never grated courgette, so that will be exciting!
http://foodhospital.channel4.com/foods/mint-and-courgette-pasta/
http://foodhospital.channel4.com/episodes/series-1/episode-3/
Serves 4
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
500g of wholemeal penne pasta
3 medium courgettes
2 good handfuls of freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 lemon
A handful of mint, leaves picked and roughly chopped
A handful of basil, leaves picked and roughly chopped
Extra virgin olive oil
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
Method
Bring a large pan of salted water to the boil, add the pasta and cook according to packet instructions and cook until al dente.
Meanwhile grate the courgettes into a large bowl, and the Parmesan, the juice of ½ the lemon and the herbs and a couple of tablespoons of olive oil and a good pinch of salt and pepper.
Once the pasta is cooked drain it and reserve a little of the cooking water in a cup. Add the steaming hot pasta to the bowl and toss together well, if you think it looks too dry add a little of the cooking water and stir in. Taste and add a little more seasoning and lemon if needed. Eat immediately.

Quickest Mint and Courgette Pasta
This is a no cook pasta sauce, perfect for a super quick dinner or lunch. This dish is all about the balance of acidity from the lemon, sweet sharpness from the Parmesan, depth from the oil and good seasoning to bring it all together, so taste and adjust until it tastes amazing. Don’t use the pre-grated parmesan for this – buy a block and grate it yourself.Serves 4
